Part 2: Our Reliable Media
January 8, 2009 by plisken
The Turkish media always give you the impression of an unpleasant joke. You hear it until the end but you never get to laugh to it. It is the general state of mind that I get from absolutely from every single channel. Sure I do not see all of them bias but in the end of the day, all the thing that they said, leaves a bitter taste in your mouth.
In Turkey we always approached the media with good intentions but all we get was misguidance in every single domain of our daily lives. Now we came to a point where we can’t trust them , and that’s why we have second thoughts about their news their programs. I think that it is shame for Turkish Media to look like a two-faced liar in the eyes of public. Of course they earned their reputation by giving us false information about the facts and we still think they owe us a apology for all their faults.
Having multiple media outils is a major source of mistrust in public and it is one of the biggest problems in our country. For example, as you all know Aydın Doğan owns a variety of media companies, which I don’t recall each one of them, and he begins to manipulate them all to construct a media consensus on the event that he needs the public support. Also his power in media may be considered as a “monopoly” which can bring down his rivals of any kind.
Of course there is no need for being so negative about it, because there are also some good things happening on TV. There is the NTV channel network which is a better news group. It gives me the impression of being an honest media group.
But unfortunately,, the mainstream news media is in the hands of monopolistic media moguls and they seem to dominate the ratings. But this not just endemic for our country, it is a widespread problem in every country who has the elements of media.
