Part 2: My Relationship With Media
January 8, 2009 by plisken

As I recall, it all started when I was 7 years old. At that time I was going to primary school and I was watching TV with almost all of my spare time from school. That was also not the best thing that a child could do but back then it was impossible to get the TV away from the kids. I was a great fan of cartoons which had the influence of a lifetime during our childhood. I remember, in those days that the kids at that age should go to bad early because of their daily routines. But it was very frustrating for a child to leave their TV set when the grown up movies are about to start. It was the brightest moment in every child’s life to stay up late and watch a real film. At that time in Turkey, most of the families didn’t have the satellite dishes for foreign broadcasts and we were dependent for our Turkish channels to see some decent programs. As I said, there was this TV channel named STAR and it had a prime time movie period called “The Parliament Cinema Club” and they were broadcasting top rated films such as: Back to the Future, Batman, Rocky, Rambo, Terminator, Ghost Busters…etc. It is still a phenomena for our generation who made their first touch with media.
After this glamorous period, my football fanaticism started. We hooked up a satellite dish to receive game broadcasts and from the age of 11 I give my spare times to football which is more than just a game for me. In the long run, sure there are some changes in my relationship with media but in the end TV was the most influential media instrument for my life and my journey through media is still done by just watching my favourite shows on TV.
