Television: The Plug-In Drug
December 1, 2008 by plisken

The media was always present in the lives of humans but it didn’t have the impact to change the familial ties till the invention of a device called “TV”. This new product started to have a lot of influence in homes and with it’s rise in the early fifties it invaded the families leisure time by hypnotising them through the silver screen. Back in the fifties, the idea of having a tv could bring the family members closer to each other, but as the multiple tv sets entered into houses, they seemed to generated a disorder through the family space. Each member of the family started to watch whatever their choices were and it caused the isolation between the members of the household.
I think it was from that moment that, the TV captured all human beings, seperated from each other, and turned them into mindless zombies. In the article, the writer tries to show us how TV changed or ruined our daily lives and the concept of nuclear family. The TV’s seem to be the one of the main reasons for the disappearence of family rituals and bonds. But however, there are whole lot of reasons to blame as the writer mentioned in her article.

Isn’t it interesting that we are aware of being mindless zombies (as you say) but nevertheless we continue to actively foster that process by turning on the television again and again…
